Six of us made the walk on Easter Monday, 2009. Kath, Dave M, Pauline,
Dave C, John and Lynne. The weather was very kind to us, We met
at Melbourne car park and started off by walking down Potter Street,
along Castle Street, then down by the industrial estate and through
various "jitties" and footpaths to King's Newton, then
along the old back road, passed the Holy Well, to Stanton by Bridge.
Through the village turning left just passed Ivy House Farm, where
we got lost, but fortunately bumped into a friend from the farm
who soon put us on the right track! Then we meandered up through
the fields to Breach Lane and into the National Forest. Now picnic
tables adorn the area and many information plaques telling you what
trees have been planted. Passed an airfield with signs to beware
low flying aircraft, fortunately none were flying, before arriving
at Cockshut Lane.
Went into the recreation ground by the rugby and cricket pitches
and walked down the footpath back into Melbourne. Finished off again
at the Bluebell with the usual cobs and chips plus of course their
fine beers (and soft drinks for some).
